• Gemstones: No cracks or scratches to the rock crystal

• Function: Hooks are secure and intact. Possible that the hooks are gold or sterling silver, Tiffany is known to use gold for posts/hooks, these have not been tested to confirm and are marked 925.

• Cat Island is one of Elsa Peretti's most difficult collections to find on the secondary market — it was produced in limited quantities and has been retired for years.
• Rock crystal quartz was one of Peretti's signature materials, chosen for the way light moves through it rather than for flash. The shell form is carved, not cast, so the translucence changes as it swings.
• Peretti designs are increasingly collected as a body of work rather than as individual pieces. Retired stone pieces in clean condition are the ones that disappear first.
